Therapy Accreditation for Trauma Therapy

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Trauma Edinburgh Specialists

Psychotherapy

As an integrative psychotherapist, holistic therapist and complementary medicine practitioner, my accreditation varies between therapies. This page then is to give clarity.

My core accreditation is as an Integrative Psychotherapist, having trained in analytic, cognitive behavioural, humanistic, psychodynamic and somatic mind-body psychotherapies.

My Primary overall therapy method is Integrative Psychotherapy, and as a psychotherapist my primary professional registration is with the National Association of Counsellors Hypnotherapists & Psychotherapists, holding the most senior level of Fellow. The NACHP is a registered charity and a validating body for the CNHC PSA Accredited Register (Hypnotherapy).

Psycho-education, coaching and somatic mind-body work are used in my integrative work, and I have related training covering these. I am also a qualified Naturopath, Hypnotherapist and Chi Gung Instructor allowing a full range of Mind- Body - Diet - Exercise - Relationship - Wellbeing.

My psychotherapy background is underpinned by my original level 5 diploma (UK qualification scale), my post graduate NACHP accreditation & Fellowship and my subsequent BA(Hons) Psy-Phil, and MSc Psychology.

Counselling

I am also accredited as a counsellor, and my primary counselling registration is Fellowship with the NACHP (National Association of Counsellors Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists). My NACHP accreditation was post graduate and included humanistic, psychoanalytic and cognitive behavioural styles, as well as clinical hypnosis and mindfulness based hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy

I am accredited as a Hypnotherapist with the NACHP and the CNHC I am listed on the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register of the CNHC under Hypnotherapy. I am a specialist in somatic and analytic hypnotherapy for trauma, but am trained in direct, indirect, story based, visualisation, cognitive behavioural, informal, mindfulness based, inner child, shamanic process (soul retrieval), regression and Ericksonian as well.

From January 2022, FHT have sadly decided to leave the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register scheme for "Right Touch Regulation". As a result Stuart, and his wife/colleague Denise, have both rejoined the CNHC PSA AR in order to ensure uninterrupted regulatory cover.

Mindfulness

I am accredited as a Clinical Mindfulness Practitioner using a range of mindfulness methods including with advanced post graduate, post qualification certification in clinical use. I am a Certified Mindfulness Informed Clinical Professional (CMIP).

This area of work includes mindfulness education, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindful Movement, Mindful Meditation, Mindful Analysis and Ethical Mindfulness. Also the related compassion, acceptance and gratitude practices of related psychology practice.

Nutrition and Integrative Medicine

I have completed post graduate, post qualification clinical certification in Nutritional and Integrative Medicine and I am a practitioner with both the Complementary Therapists Association and the International Association Of Therapists. The CTHA is a validation body for the CNHC PSA AR. I have experience of both nutritional consulting and teaching a range of Martial Arts including Chi Gung for mindful movement. I have professional accredited diplomas in Naturopathy and Chi Gung.

You have taken the first step towards getting specialised trauma treatment support...

Many people struggle to find specialist support for complex trauma or PTSD. Others believe there is no respite for domestic violence, abuse and recovery from child and adult trauma.

Specialist support enables far greater change than basic talking therapy alone and contains far more than just CBT style psychology or counselling. An integrative trauma therapy response enables you to reach your full recovery through working through recognised stages of recovery and growth.

Is Hypnotherapy available for Trauma in Edinburgh?

Hypnotherapy for trauma including analytic hypnotherapy and somatic hypnotherapy is available in Edinburgh with Stuart. Stuart has specialist training in the use of hypnosis and neurology based mind-body treatment for complex trauma.

Specialist trauma treatment uses multiple therapy models to address both implicit and explicit memory, social interaction, behavioural, personal potential, somatic processing, mind-body integration and interpersonal skills.

Is Trauma Counselling available in Edinburgh?

Yes, integrative trauma treatment is still often called trauma counselling, although in reality in order to be truly effective a far more integrative approach is used than just counselling!

Specialist trauma treatment uses multiple therapy models to address both implicit and explicit memory, social interaction, behavioural, personal potential, somatic processing, mind-body integration and interpersonal skills.

Is the Mind Body approach used?

Yes, without the integration of somatic feelings and emotions felt through the body it is impossible to properly address both kinds of trauma memory. Talking therapy alone is not entirely effective.

Specialist trauma treatment uses multiple therapy models to address both implicit and explicit memory, social interaction, behavioural, personal potential, somatic processing, mind-body integration and interpersonal skills.

I have physical, pain, nutritional or well being issues too. Are these addressed in integrative trauma work?

Psycho-education, coaching and integrative medicine which includes wellbeing, nutritional and movement advice are key to addressing the bi-directional issues in Trauma. Long term complex trauma effects the body including through pain, nutritional absorption and habits, related physical conditions and sleep disruption. I am trained to integrate these aspects into your recovery.

Specialist trauma treatment uses multiple therapy models to address both implicit and explicit memory, social interaction, behavioural, personal potential, somatic processing, mind-body integration and interpersonal skills.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

No. Because of COVID this is not currently possible. Normally a supporter is allowed at the first meeting only.
